It seems like only summer started and already it’s Back to School time! That’s right. Monday, August 22nd will be the start of a new school year for many in our public schools and there are a few reminders for parents, children, teachers and especially drivers!
Drivers? What do drivers have to do with back to school? Everything! For one, we really need to watch out for children crossing the street and walking on sidewalks and of course the most important things: Speed Limits through school zones;not talking on your phone; watch for kids crossing the street and STOP for a school bus when kids are exiting. You have no idea how many times I have seen cars go around the bus when it has that huge STOP sign out. This means STOP! It doesn’t mean go around, kids are not crossing, or you are except! It means STOP! I am a little passionate about this.
Back to School always was a great time of year for me, it still is. It signifies the end of hot summer days. (Well, in San Antonio we might still have a few more weeks of hot) It also stands for getting closer to the Holidays like Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas, my favorite time of the year.
School should be a happy time for all involved, children, parents and teachers alike and those who no longer have children in the school system should remember: we want all children to be safe. Don’t be one of those that says, “my kids are grown, I don’t have to worry about those things.” We all have to worry about those children, they are our future!
Have a very Happy start of Back to School season and let’s all be watchful for these children. Our future looks bright! Enjoy!
